the new apartment has a much better layout and has room for a table and chairs in an eat-in area. we sold our last kitchen table set at a yard sale last summer (it was 18 years old and I NEVER liked – it was so uncomfortable) so I was excited to try something new. so I began my search for a Saarinen-style tulip table and chairs – I really like the Thonet bentwood caned chairs but worried about their durability. the Hans Wegner wishbone chairs were another big favorite.
LEXMOD!! they have great prices on both the tulip-style Lippa table (so may sizes! we went with the 47″ top) and the wishbone-style Amish chairs (top photo from Lexmod). and they shipped so fast, they showed up the day we moved in.
I was really hoping to create a really comfortable ‘nook’ and one of the benefits to this apartment layout is being able to pull more of our furniture out of storage. (this post from apartment therapy has some great ideas.) like my mother’s hand-me-down, pink settee. the table could easily fit five Amish chairs but we went with a set of four. Bob is using one as a desk chair – it’s that comfortable. the little couch seats two people so we can easily have everyone at the table when they’re home. in our last apartment, I was using a drop-leaf table (I’m using it as a sideboard now above) with three folding chairs and two footstools and it was awful.
Bob calls it my ‘booth’, I call it my desk when I work from home and Fenway calls it heaven. now to find fabric and a seamstress to make a slipcover….
