This was one of my inspiration tear sheets when we built our house and I’ve spent the last four years looking for light fixtures for my front and back halls to complete this look.
I originally purchased two of these gorgeous Pottery Barn Hundi lantern pendants. They fit the bill and I really liked the way they looked with my kitchen island pendants but as soon as I opened the first box I realized they weren’t going to work. Even with my 10′ ceilings there’s not enough clearance for the doors to swing open – the inspiration home above must have 12′ ceilings. (truth: I still have both pendants – one box has been opened, the other is untouched. shoot me an email if you’re interested) I literally have bare 60 watt bulbs stuck in the ceiling. #klassy
So… on to flush mount fixtures. I’ve searched for the last four years and I’m open to different finishes / styles but I’ve not fallen in love with anything yet. At least not in love enough to get around the price. Remember, I need two fixtures. That is until last week when this Ballard Design gem showed up in my pinterest feed.
And then I saw this peonies and brass photo (below) with the same light in action. Are you kidding me? They’re organic, stunning and dramatic. And at $189 they’re completely doable – times two. The only drawback is that they’re only 11″ in diameter – roughly the size of a dinner plate and I think they might be underwhelming.
I’ll post ’em once they’re installed but until then, here’s another tear sheet from my inspiration files all done up for Christmas. On top of the bell jar pendant, I loved the contrasting black door and black banister/newel post. I won that fight with my builder and I’ve never regretted it.
